Throwing away food means contributing to the world of climate change. Among of the biggest contirubuters to this are Americans who throw away 55 million tons of food a year. This is equivilant to 40% of their food supply.
A recent study by CleanMetrics found that the average American family contirubtes to 1,800 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions from food waste. An individual, contributes 440 pounds a year. Interestingly enough, cutting these figures in half not only reduce the carbon footprint, but also put money in your pocket.
In fact, the average family of four can save up to $600 a year, by simply reducing their waste in half. This money can go towards travel, family, and anything else the heart desires!
